The Future Plans and 2006 Parish review

Our Aim is to have the Parish identify itself as an Urban Parish, having a distinct role and purpose

  1. The Parish of Southend is the Urban Anglican Parish for Central Southend. We affirm the primacy of the Sacraments, the Creeds, and the Scriptures, and the Ordination of Women to the Priesthood alongside that of Men. We have just had a Parish Away Day at the Asheldham Youth Church . We have a Parish Pilgrimage to Walsingham every other year ( we were there in February 2005 and will be going later on in 2007) alternating with a Parish weekend away which last year was to a convent in Chigwell.

  2. We aim to be a presence in the Town that is taken for granted as a natural part of the Town. The Project at St John’s will provide a ‘shop window’ for the Parish in the Town. We have links with the Homeless Centre, YMCA, Porters Grange Primary School, the Palace Hotel, and the Kursaal. We have Chaplaincy role with the Southend Lifeboat Station, the Police, and with the Cliff’s Pavilion. During the week, All Saints Church is open on Wednesday all day and Saturday mornings, St John’s is open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings. St Mark’s is the home of the Milton Community Partnership which operates in the St Mark’s Centre. This is a significant social and community resource for the Milton Ward of Southend.
  3. We aim to be a Spiritual Resource for the Community. We are part of ‘CICS’-  ‘Christians In Central Southend’. This organises each year, the Good Friday Walk of Witness along the High Street; the ‘Christian Fair’ held in Victoria Circus each September, and Carol Singing with the Victoria Plaza Shopping Centre.

  4. We aim to consist of 4 Churches, each with its own distinctiveness and each  enjoying being part of the Team.
